There are different types of travellers and each have their own preference and reasons for travelling. You may find one who is motivated by thrill, self-improvement or even escapism. You may find that the way each type of traveller looks at destinations may be unique from others.

Let’s take a look at some of the various types of travellers as well as their particular quirks. See if you can find one that fits your travelling lifestyle.

Types of travellers

  • The Backpacker – Totally money conscious, the backpacker is always looking for the cheapest deal, whether it be accommodation or a souvenir and they always haggle over prices. They love to rough it and try to get the most out of every travelling experience. Plus, they are usually prepared for anything and everything. Definitely falls into the adventurous category!
  • The Thrill Seeker – Adrenaline rules with the thrill seeker, whether it is one of those exciting helicopter rides over Sydney Harbour or a Bungee jump over a ravine. This kind of traveller is never phased by anything. Nerves of steel and a carefree attitude best sums up the thrill seeker, and in some ways, they are similar to the backpacker.

  • The Collector – The collector loves to gather travel mementos and they always take many photos and video clips, regardless of where they go, always looking for physical reminders of their travels. The collector would have hours and hours of slides to show visitors and they never get bored with telling others about their travelling experiences.
  • The Planner – Absolutely everything is planned in advance, allowing for zero chance of anything going wrong. The planner will book every accommodation and tour well in advance, plus they have spares for absolutely everything in their luggage and are always fully insured for every eventuality.

  • The Chilled One – Relaxation is the goal for this traveller; give them a pool and a sun lounger and they will quite happily spend their entire holiday sipping cocktails and kicking back. The chilled traveller loves the sun and will spend hours laying on a beach and never get bored.
  • The First Class Traveller – As the name implies, they love to travel in absolute luxury and would never consider flying economy, yet this type of traveller is very fussy and wants everything to be just right. Usually wealthy, the first-class traveller expects the very best and is not afraid to let you know when the service is lacking in any respect.
  • The Group Traveller – Always looking to travel in a group, this type of tourist will go anywhere, as long as there is a lot of company. Typically unadventurous, the group traveller is happy to go along with any plan and likes to follow a heavy schedule, visiting as many places as possible in the time they have.

  • The Aurora Seeker – Attracted by the alluring natural world, Aurora Seekers are on an epic quest for one of nature’s most majestic phenomena – the Northern Lights! A trip on Northern Lights Cruise Tromso in Norway provides them with their perfect adventure. As they brave the Arctic chill with resilience and patience, they understand that witnessing Aurora Borealis requires playing a waiting game beneath a starlit sky. Aurora Seekers prefer the experience of nature’s wonders over luxury travel, always ready to capture that perfect photo when the sky bursts with brilliant hues of green, pink, and violet. Their journey is not simply vacation, it serves as pilgrimage to witness this rare spectacle found in few other places on Earth.

If you can’t find a group that fits you, you are definitely a unique traveller, as most people will fit into at least one of the above categories. We all love to travel for different reasons and while some people prefer comfort and predictability, others thrive on the adventure aspect of travelling. The great thing about travel is there’s something to suit every lifestyle.
