Unfortunately, there is no escaping from the fact that Summer is coming to an end, and however much I wish it wasn’t, it’s time to start thinking about what to wear to Transition to Fall.

Unfortunately, there is no escaping from the fact that Summer is coming to an end, but on the plus side that means that it’s nearly time for pumpkin spiced lattes, and also that it’s time to start thinking about what to wear to transition to Fall.

Son here are a few tips to dress for this season

Adapt your colour scheme

Even if the weather is still warm, a simple change of colours to Fall colours, such as orange, red, rust, mustard and burgundy will ensure you transition easily into Autumn (see here for a simple way to start the Transition to Fall while still wearing summer dresses)

Restyle Summer staples

A Summer dress or skirt can easily be worn well into the Fall by adapting your accessories (see below) and by adding an edgy suede or leather jacket to update your look.

Don’t put away your maxi dresses and skirts just yet either, as by wearing these with boots and a sweater or jacket, they can also be worn for a few months yet (I will be doing a post on how to wear a maxi in Fall soon)

Adapt your accessories

A simple matter of updating your accessories can also transform your look from Summer to Fall. Here are a few ideas you might like to try.

  • Shoes – change from sandals to closed toes or even cute little booties
  • Opaque tights – if you’re a fan of shorts, try wearing black shorts with opaque tights for the Autumn
  • Scarves  – a  scarf is your new best friend – a scarf in Autumn hues will instantly transform your outfit
  • Bags – similarly change your nude/ blush colour bags for bags in Fall colours, such as chocolate brown, tan or burgundy
  • Hats – try adding a felt hat to update your look
  • Statement jewellery – choose chunky eye-catching jewellery in rich Autumnal colours (chokers are big this Fall)
  • Make-up – again opt for warmer colours such as taupe and brown eyeshadow, burgundy lips, and don’t forget to change the colour of your nail varnish too!

Use layers wisely

Layers are the perfect way to adapt to the changing weather in Fall – one minute you’re freezing and then the sun comes out and you’re boiling hot! Wise use of layers will easily take your wardrobe well into Fall.

I love this colour block fringe wool cape from John Lewis, (similar here) as it’s not only stylish and warm (as it’s 100% wool), but the fact that it’s sleeveless makes it perfect for transition.  As it gets colder swap the short sleeved tee-shirt for a long sleeved top or sweater and it will take you into Winter too!
