Welcome back to The Velvet Runway and this feature about our stay at the Copthorne Tara Hotel, London.

If you’re looking for a comfortable stay right in the heart of Central London, then the Copthorne Tara Hotel in Kensington is definitely worth checking out.

It’s prime location is the perfect base for a trip to the UK’s capital city, and there is really nowhere else like London!

I travel continuously, and I see many cities, but there is nowhere like London

Norman Foster

The Copthorne Tara Hotel is conveniently located just minutes from Kensington High Street, the main shopping street in Kensington, and less than a 5 minute walk from Kensington High Street tube station.

Kensington High Street is the perfect place for a spot of retail therapy; with shops ranging from Marks & Spencer, TK Maxx, Urban Outfitters, L’Occitane, Jigsaw, Hobbs, H&M, Uniqlo and Whole Foods. And it’s just about a mile to London’s most iconic store, Harrods.

Or you can hop on the District and Circle Line to Notting Hill Gate where you can peruse the vintage shops and stalls of Portobello Road Market.

The Copthorne Tara is also walking distance away from Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, so if you need to relax and reframe in nature, you’re also perfectly located!

And this area has you covered for museums too! From High Street Kensington station, you are just two stops to South Kensington, where you can visit three of London’s most famous museums, including the Natural History Museum , the Science Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum, which hosts many exhibitions. Current exhibitions include “Bags: Inside Out“, which, as you might expect, explores the style, function, design and craftsmanship of the ultimate accessory.

The Copthorne Tara Hotel

our stay at the Copthorne Tara Hotel

The hotel offers its guests a luxurious stay in a contemporary setting in the city center.

The hotel is perfectly suited for business and leisure travelers looking for a comfortable stay in a great location.

The hotel has excellent facilities, such as a state-of-the-art fitness center, meeting rooms and private function rooms, as well as an onsite restaurant and tea room.

However, as I was injured and unable to exercise, and wanted to explore London, and in particular have dinner at “The Ivy Kensington Brasserie“, which is located a few minutes away from the hotel on High Street Kensinton, I must confess I didn’t take advantage of these facilities, although I did manage a sneak peak at one of the private rooms!

Dining

As I mentioned above, I didn’t eat at the hotel, but a range of dining options are available.

The Bugis Street Restaurant

Bugis Street Restaurant : Tara Hotel

Considered to be one of London’s best Asian restaurants, Bugis Street encompasses a relaxed ambiance with fabulous international cuisine. The menu comprises Singaporean, Malaysian and Chinese food with a modern twist.

Examples of what you will find on the menu include Satay chicken, Crispy aromatic duck, Singapore curry laska and Nasi goreng to name just a few of the dishes. You can find the full menu here.

The Brasserie Restaurant and Bar

The Brasserie Restaurant and bar offers all day dining, serving traditional British dishes alongside an extensive wine list, ales and classic cocktails in a relaxed casual setting.

Dishes include Scottish steak & ale pie, Wild mushroom & goat’s cheese tart,
Chicken tikka masala, the Millenium burger and a selection of pasta and pizzas. Have a look here for the full menu.

The Tara Tea Lounge

our stay at the Copthorne Tara Hotel

As it’s name suggests, this is the place for your traditional afternoon tea, which, in my opinion, is one of the highlights of a trip to the UK.

You can’t see in the picture, but they DO serve scones with clotted cream and jam!

Cafexpres

The place to catch up with friends over a drink, or grab a fast to-go coffee, tea, cake, sandwich, or wrap.

Fitness

The hotel doesn’t have a pool or spa facilities but it does have a gym. As I mentioned, I didn’t use it and to be honest, I can’t even tell you the opening hours! But, if you did want to work up a sweat, then there is a gym on site!

Meeting Rooms

Final words about the Copthorne Tara Hotel

The location of the hotel is perfect for exploring London and the service was friendly and efficient. Private parking is available on site, and although it is quite expensive (£29 for 24 hours for hotel guests. £15 per day for event attendees), it is a typical London rate.

When we arrived the direct access door to the car park was closed, so we had to walk around the outside of the hotel to get to the lobby! Luckily it wasn’t raining but it was cold. This seemed to have been rectified by the time we left, so, hopefully was only a temporary glitch.

Overall, I really enjoyed our stay and I would stay there again on another trip to London. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Tara Copthorne when you are in London, and don’t forget to have a look here for things to do in London, and and here for more of our hotels and resorts features.
