Hair Care Travel tips

As you have seen from my travel posts, (see here, for my recent trip to Madrid) I love travelling and travel whenever and wherever I can. However, it’s not always easy to maintain a beauty and hair care routine when you’re on the road.

Firstly, there’s the problem of overweight suitcases and the 100ml size issue, if you are flying and also, let’s face it, you want to look your best for your holiday photos, and unfortunately, it’s often the time when your skin care is less than desirable and your hair is at its worst ! So, here are a few of my hair care travel tips.

Pre travel tips

I always do a treatment, usually a nourishing mask before I go away and make sure that my hair is trimmed and coloured, if necessary.

If I’m travelling by air, I also try to stock up on travel size shampoo and conditioners, but if your favorite brand doesn’t do a travel size then you can buy a few cheap plastic bottles and decant just enough for your time away.

Also, your hair needs sun protection just as much as your skin, so remember to take a sun protection/ UV spray, a scarf or a sunhat with you, if you’re travelling somewhere warm. (and have a look here for some Summer beauty tips)

I’m really bad at the sun protection part though so it’s a case of ‘do as I say not do as I do’ here !!

Another great idea is a leave –in conditioner as this can save you a lot of time and you can carry it around with you to use at the beach or whenever you need it. It’s also a good idea to apply some before swimming to protect your hair from the salt water or chlorine.

I try to avoid styling my hair as much as possible on holiday so will just leave it to dry naturally. However, if I’m going to a special event then I will have it styled at a salon.

If you don’t speak the language, then try to avoid having your hair cut and remember that ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ so take in a picture of how you would like your hair styled.

If all else fails while I am away, then I will use olive oil or coconut oil as an intense treatment before shampooing.

Back home

Finally, if my hair has really suffered while I have been away, then I will trim the ends when I get home and give it some TLC!

Hair Care tips

This is a tricky one, but I think it would have to be a dry shampoo, preferably a volumising one to tackle two issues at once.

If my hair feels in need of a wash and is looking fine and limp, then one spritz of dry shampoo in the morning and I’m good to go!
