Phillip Island is tucked into the second crevice entering Melbourne. It’s beyond French Island but thanks to its location, has unique wildlife present on it’s soil.

Discover the rolling waves of Phillip Island, the Australian Adventure

The rolling waves should give you an idea to what the main attraction to the island is for many tourists and locals alike. The penguins that arrive here are going to first confuse you then captivate you. On this very hot island country, where there are desert sand dunes as tall as buildings, these penguins come to relax and socialize.

However the island has many different animals that you will want to get to know just as well also. Of course the second national animal Australia is known for is the koala bear.

Silver fur and fuzzy ears with an ability to climb trees like an expert, this small creature is littered across the island.

Koala Conservation Centre Phillip Island

You can also stroll through the Koala Conservation Centre and come face to face with Koalas in their natural habitat.  The unique tree top boardwalks and close viewing areas allow visitors to see how truly amazing koalas are.

Of course, a trip to the land of Oz wouldn’t be complete without meeting some kangaroos and this adventure also promises you that pleasure.

Meet the hoppers of Phillip Island

The animals that you will meet on Phillip Island are going to make your trip memorable. What you should consider first are the Phillip Island penguins which are the “Little Penguins”. Quite literally named for being small, these little penguins don’t waddle but walk in small steps. They are also known to just hop around to where they need to go making them very cute but also fascinating to watch on land. They come ashore and in doing so in groups they often present the ‘penguin parade’ which goes through the beach and onto their small rocky and grassy areas. They are used to people and don’t fear the human touch. Just make sure you don’t step over the mark and make them feel uncomfortable or your finger might get a stiff pecking.

Searching for whales

During certain times of the year, humpback whales will be travelling just past the island. Phillip Island is fantastic for whale watching but don’t just stand ashore with your binoculars, get involved and go on sightseeing tours on the various boat tours. During the whale event you’ll have the opportunity to get up close and see these very large but majestic animals up close. It’s called the Island Whale Festival where travellers get to ride on boats and get up close to take pictures; however there’s a party atmosphere waiting back on the island for you. Different cafes and street food stalls are open, with various animal games going on for the children and quizzes about the local wildlife with prizes to be won. Lots to do but so little time.

Down by the waves

Sometimes island retreats can seem as if you don’t have space to yourself. Down at Mussel Rocks you have room to be by yourself. The smooth and white waves coming ashore are broken up and slowed down by the black rocks. Here you have tables built for people to come and eat their food, making it a great place to wind down and relax.

And if you fancy a change from the wildlife, then Phillip Island also has a day spa, where you can treat yourself to a Spa massage Package with a facial, and there is also a Chocolate Factory, which is a celebration of all things chocolate, with interactive machines to play with and you can even make your own chocolate on the spot. All visitors receive a complimentary chocolate plus your actual entry ticket is made of chocolate…so you can eat that too!

Phillip Island is superb for those that love and study wildlife. The Little Penguin parade is something that you will have to record to show your friends. How they hop around and interact with people is an experience you will never forget.
