Welcome back to the Velvet Runway and this Style feature about Bridesmaid Duties: What to expect.

Getting asked to be a bridesmaid by your best friend is an incredibly exciting time. You’ve probably both longed for this day to come and now it’s finally on the horizon!

However, this important role comes with many responsibilities, otherwise known as “bridesmaid duties”. The last thing you want to do is make any costly mistakes on the big day.

In this article, we’ll be discussing what you can expect when becoming a bridesmaid and how to navigate the role with ease.

Bridesmaid Duties: What to expect

Bridesmaid Duties: What to expect

1: Accepting your fate

Choosing bridesmaids is a decision that doesn’t come easy to the bride. Being a bridesmaid is a crucial role and you’ll be playing a huge part on the big day. Your best friend wants to ensure the day runs perfectly, which is why it’s so important to listen to them carefully and respect each decision they make.

Sparkly dresses

Women’s fashion retailer Quiz surveyed 2,000 women who had recently been or were due to be a bridesmaid and discovered that, on average, the cost of being a bridesmaid can be more than £400. This is said to cover the many elegant evening dresses, sparkly yet stylish shoes and the all organisations from travel to accommodation.

2: Prep for the big day

Quiz revealed that 97% of bridesmaids were happy to pay towards wedding expenses, while 3% didn’t want to spend a penny. It’s certainly possible to be budget-savvy throughout the bridesmaid process while still giving the bride the best wedding day possible.

It was found that bridesmaids living in Southampton were the most frugal with their money, spending as little as £35. Meanwhile, Birmingham appears to have the biggest spenders as they were happy to splash out up to £577 each time they agreed to be a bridesmaid.

3: When the big day comes

There are several tips we recommend for when the big day finally comes around, including making sure to capture beautiful moments for the wedding photobook. As a bridesmaid, you want to ensure everything goes perfectly for the bride, allowing her to have a stress-free wedding day.

Having an emergency kit on standby that includes a few everyday essentials can help to avoid any makeup or fashion mishaps on the morning of the wedding. Pack some comfortable shoes, makeup wipes, tissues, snacks, plasters, and a phone charger so that all bases are covered.

You could also consider bringing something small for the bride in case she feels nervous, such as their favourite childhood toy or a photo of her and her loved ones. This can help to calm the nerves and make her feel at ease ahead of the vows.

While you hope everything goes to plan, it’s important to be prepared for if something goes wrong. However, try not to worry too much about what could go wrong – it’s how you deal with these issues should they arise. And make sure to enjoy the day!

Final Thoughts on Bridesmaid Duties: What to expect

The role of bridesmaid should be taken seriously, and if you fail to prepare then be prepared to fail! You should only take on this role if you feel comfortable, as it can be challenging and nerve-wracking for some.
