Celebrities can earn a lot of money on the Instagram platform by partnering with brands for paid promotions. Looking at the hefty price tags of celebrities’ engagement rings compared to the earning potential of each monetised post shows us just how lucrative social media can be.

New research from leading jeweller F Hinds makes it easier than ever to see just how many posts it could take for celebrities to pay for their engagement rings.

How Celebrities Pay for their Engagement Rings

1: The highest-earning power couples

The research identified who the top power couples were and how much their engagement rings were worth.

At the top of the list, the highest-earning celebrity couple was Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck. Unsurprisingly, their second engagement ring after they rekindled their romance was also worth the most, at around £6,000,000. The ring has an extremely rare natural green diamond, accounting for its especially high price tag.

F Hinds’ research shows that with the typical value of a monetised post from J-Lo, she could pay it back after just 13 Instagram posts!

The second highest-earning power couple was Britney Spears and Sam Asghari. The soon-to-be-divorced couple is estimated to be worth around £57,5 million. Yet with Britney Spears’ following and influence, it could have taken her just 1 monetised post to cover the cost of the ring and earn a little bit extra.

In fact, Britney Spears could have earned around £92k from her engagement announcement – more than 1.5x the cost of her ring.

2: The ones who need more posts to cover costs

Of the celebrities who were in the focus, the ones rounding off the bottom of the list were MGK and Megan Fox as well as Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles.

Rapper and singer-songwriter MGK got engaged to Megan Fox in 2022. The ring is made from 18-carat white gold and features colourless natural diamonds and two pear-shaped gems. Leveraging MGK’s 9.7 million followers would mean an average windfall of £21,483 per post. He would need to post 14 times himself to cover the cost.

Meanwhile, NFL player Jonathan Owens gave his fiancée, gymnast Simone Biles, an engagement ring worth £258,000. At the time of the research, it was estimated that his following could net him just £887 per post, on average. This means that he would need to produce around 290 monetised posts to break even on the cost of the ring.
